USA TODAYAJ Mizes built The Human Reach because he's been where you are. He's spent almost two decades helping senior professionals land the roles they want. He's been featured on NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, The International Business Times, and Yahoo! News. In 2023, USA TODAY named him the #1 Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year.
But the credentials aren't what matter. Here's what does — in AJ's own words.
I graduated from Ithaca College in 2009 — straight into one of the worst recessions in American history. I couldn't find a job. I sent applications into the void. I watched friends with better resumes than mine get rejected, ghosted, and slowly worn down by a system nobody had taught us how to navigate.
I eventually took a sales role I didn't want at a luxury resort company because I needed to pay rent. Within six months I was at the top of the leaderboard, which led to a promotion, which led to another, which eventually led to Facebook.
For over six years, I served as a Global HR Executive at Facebook — now Meta — leading international teams of 13,000+ people. I was promoted three times. I helped design leadership programs that are still in use today and that other companies have since copied.
But the most important thing I learned at Meta wasn't how to build leadership programs. It was how the hiring system actually works from the inside.
I saw 70% of senior roles get filled before they ever hit LinkedIn. I watched hiring managers talk to two or three referred candidates before a job posting even went public. I saw qualified, talented people — people exactly like the ones I now coach — getting filtered out of opportunities they were perfect for, simply because nobody had taught them the rules of the new game.
And I kept thinking about myself in 2009. Sending applications into the void.
In 2019, I left Meta to build The Human Reach. I took everything I'd learned designing hiring systems at one of the world's largest tech companies and turned it into a step-by-step program for senior professionals trying to land roles they actually want. We've now helped over 2,000 clients land roles at Google, Amazon, Netflix, and hundreds of Fortune 500 companies — most of them through conversations that never showed up on a job board.
Everything we offer is backed by a six-month guarantee. I built this program for the version of myself in 2009 who needed it most, and I refused to build something I wouldn't sell to me back then.
"Watching someone come to us unsure of their next step, and then seeing them transform into someone who's getting paid what they deserve, working with people they love, doing work that makes an impact — that's what gets me out of bed. It transcends any paycheck."
AJ holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication Management and Organizational Design from Ithaca College. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he grew up.
Meet Your Coaching Team
Most career programs throw one coach at you and hope they can do everything. We don't.
When you join Career AMP, you work with four specialized teams. Each one focused on a specific part of getting you hired.
Here's who handles what.
The pain:
Your resume looks "fine" but it's not getting interviews. You've rewritten your LinkedIn three times and still don't know if it's right. You don't know how to tell your story in a way that makes a hiring manager stop scrolling.
What we do:
We rebuild your resume, LinkedIn, cover letter, and the story that ties them all together. Real humans, no AI. And we don't stop at one resume — because one resume doesn't work anymore. You need different versions for different roles. We build the whole library.
Led by Clayton Wert (Head of Coaching, certified resume writer)
The pain:
You hate networking. It feels fake. Cold messages on LinkedIn get ignored. You don't know how to start a real conversation with someone you've never met without sounding like you're begging.
What we do:
We build the outreach system FOR you. We set you up to connect with people who actually have the power to hire you — not random recruiters or junior staff. We give you scripts that turn cold connections into real conversations.
Most clients see 50–60 new targeted connections per week, 7–8 real conversations, and 3–4 interview invitations. Not applications. Invitations.
Important: We're not making personal introductions or vouching for you to our network. We build the system that lets YOU reach the right people, the right way, at scale.
Led by Chikara Kennedy (former Meta + EY) and Jennie Reis (former Amazon)
The pain:
You don't know what you're doing wrong in interviews. You freeze up. You don't know how to talk about your gap, your pivot, or the layoff. You're tired of getting to the final round and losing to someone "with more experience."
What we do:
We don't hand you a list of generic questions to memorize. We teach you how to walk into any conversation as the obvious choice. We rehearse the hard stuff with you — the gap, the pivot, the layoff, the "why are you leaving?" — until you can answer without flinching.
We also walk you through AJ's Interview ACE Method, a structured way to show up that turns even tough interviews into ones you control.
Led by Stephanie Montessi (former Meta) and AJ Mizes
The pain:
You're scared of asking for more money because you don't want to lose the offer. You don't know what's negotiable beyond base salary. You've never asked for equity, sign-on bonuses, or remote flexibility — you just take what they give you.
What we do:
We coach you through every offer conversation in real time. We know what's actually on the table at every level — base, equity, sign-on, PTO, remote flexibility, title — and how to ask for each without losing the offer.
Our clients see an average 22% salary increase from negotiation alone. That's every lever pulled. If we can't negotiate up more than the cost of working with us, we refund you.
Led by Brittany Polanco (former PepsiCo + Hilton) and Nikki Moriarty (former Google)

How Career AMP Works
Career AMP isn't a course. It's a real system, run by a real team, that takes you from "I'm stuck" to "I just signed the offer." Here's exactly what happens.
What you're saying: "I don't even know what I want anymore. Every job sounds the same. I don't know which ones are right for me."
What we do:
Most people skip this step. They jump into applying before they know what they want. Then they waste months chasing roles that were never a fit.
We won't let that happen. We take you through a deep diagnostic, real assessments, and our Good Options Rubric — a checklist that defines exactly what your dream role looks like. Company size, team, salary, the daily work itself.
By the end, you'll have a written North Star: a clear picture of where you're going. Every move you make from here points the same direction.
What you're saying: "I'm sending applications into the void. The jobs I see on LinkedIn are either entry-level or already filled. I have no idea how people are actually getting hired."
What we do:
This is the heart of the program.
70% of senior roles never hit LinkedIn. They get filled through private conversations with people who already know the candidate. While you're applying online, someone else is already in the conversation that leads to the offer.
We fix that. We build you a complete outreach system that gets you in front of decision-makers — before roles ever go public. Our team rebuilds your resume, LinkedIn, and cover letter. We launch automated outreach using software we provide. We give you scripts for turning cold connections into real conversations.
Most clients see 50–60 new targeted connections per week, 7–8 real conversations, and 3–4 interview invitations. Not applications you sent. Invitations from people who want to talk to you.
Important: We're not making personal introductions. We build the SYSTEM that lets you reach the right people at scale, with the right messaging.

What you're saying: "I get interviews but I don't convert. I freeze. I don't know how to talk about my gap or my pivot. I'm watching less qualified people get the offer and I don't know what I'm doing wrong."
What we do:
Getting the interview is one thing. Walking out with the offer at a salary you're proud of is another.
We teach you how to walk into any conversation as the obvious choice. We rehearse the hard stuff with you — the gap, the pivot, the layoff, the "why are you leaving?" — until you can answer without flinching.
Then comes the offer. Most people leave 20–30% of their compensation on the table because they don't know what to ask for. Our clients see an average 22% salary increase from negotiation alone — base, equity, sign-on, PTO, remote flexibility, every lever pulled.
If we can't negotiate up more than the cost of working with us, we refund you.
What you're saying: "I don't want to figure this out alone. I want real people I can talk to when I'm stuck — not a forum or a Slack group I never check."
What we do:
Career AMP isn't a 6-week course. It's a system you have access to for life — with real people you actually talk to.
You get small-group coaching calls every week. Not massive group calls where you're one of 200 names on a Zoom screen. These are intimate sessions where you get personal attention and real answers to your specific situation.
You also get unlimited email coaching with our team and access to Jarvis, our AI co-pilot for outreach, interview prep, and offer navigation.
When you land your first role, you don't lose access. When you're up for promotion in two years, we're still here. Five years from now, the system you learned still works.
You can. People do it every day. Here's what it usually looks like.
The average senior professional running their own job search takes 6 to 12 months to land a comparable role. Six to twelve months of:
Most of our clients land in half that time because they're not guessing. They have a real team running the strategy with them \u2014 specialists in writing, outreach, interviewing, and negotiation \u2014 instead of trying to be all four themselves.
Here's the math: if you're earning $150K and you cut your search by 6 months, that's $75,000 in opportunity cost saved. Plus the 22% average salary bump from negotiation. Plus the equity, sign-on, and benefits you would have left on the table.
The question isn't whether you CAN do this alone. It's whether the cost of doing it alone is worth more than the cost of getting help.
Our Promise
Everything we do is backed by a guarantee. We're putting our money where our mouth is — because we know what it feels like to be on the other side of this.
If you do the work — log in 3+ times per week, hit your outreach targets, attend coaching calls, do what we teach you to do — and you haven't accepted an offer in six months, you have two options:
We keep working with you for free. No time limit. We don't stop until you land.
We refund your investment. Every dollar back.
The choice is yours.
That conversation rarely happens. Our median time to accepted offer is 76 days.
